BBC News School Report is a national project run by the BBC in which pupils from schools across the UK take part in a range of workshops and seminars to learn various journalistic skills such as writing effective news reports and filming their own news article. The programme culminates in a News Day, which will be held on March 11, 2010, where students will work to a deadline of 2pm to create their own “current” news reports and display them on a special section of the school website which the BBC will link to from their own site. The entire BBC network will run programmes on the day featuring articles produced by students, so there is a chance students’ final work could make it to television. At the very least, however, students work will be displayed on this website which will be directly accessible from the School Report section of the BBC website. So, in effect, students work will be "broadcast" to the UK and around the world to a real audience. This is an excellent opportunity for students to take part in a high profile, challenging project where they can learn and perfect a broad range of cross-curricular skills, covering subjects including English, Media, Drama, ICT, Geography and Citizenship. At Egglescliffe School there is a team of up to 15 year 8 pupils taking part in this project. |
